Owner direction 2026-09-07 (same instruction as the sibling unknown-
command fix, previous commit): plugin-originated text must land in
the chat window instead of retail's ClientLocal (0x1A) SpewBox-only
channel. AppAutomationSurface.PostSystemMessage -- the production
implementation of IPluginChat.PostSystemMessage that MossTank/VTank-
style plugins call -- now passes RetailLogTextType.Default instead of
ClientLocal to RuntimeCommunicationState.AddText, so the text reaches
the chat transcript via Chat.OnSystemMessage instead of the SpewBox.
This matches Decal's own AddChatText behavior for plugin output.
IPluginChat.PostSystemMessage's doc comment is updated to describe
the new destination instead of the old one. Register row AD-124
(previous commit) already covers this site alongside the sibling
unknown-command change.
Mutation check: temporarily reverted PostSystemMessage's AddText call
back to ClientLocal and confirmed the new
AppAutomationSurfaceTests.PostSystemMessage_RoutesToChatLog_NeverSpewBox
test fails (Assert.Single() on an empty chat log) before restoring the
fix. Also adds ChatVMTests.RecentLines_ShowsPluginSystemMessage_TaggedDefault
pinning that a ChatVM bound to the same ChatLog surfaces the line.

Item F (slice-1 fix round). IPluginHost.VtankProfileDirectory handed the
plugin a raw string path and told it to fall back to its own
System.IO-based portable default when null — a plugin reading and
resolving filesystem paths itself, which is exactly the seam the rest of
IPluginHost.Storage deliberately avoids (Core.Plugins.ScopedPluginHost
scopes/validates every key; the plugin never sees a path).
- IPluginHost: VtankProfileDirectory (string?) deleted; new VtankProfiles
(IPluginStorage, defaults to NoOpPluginStorage) added — a second,
UNSCOPED storage instance (unlike Storage, which Core scopes per
plugin manifest id) rooted at a host-composed VTank-compatible
directory.
- ScopedPluginHost.VtankProfiles forwards _inner.VtankProfiles directly
(no scoping — it names one shared external location, not per-plugin
data). New PluginSessionTests.ScopedHostForwardsVtankProfilesUnscoped
proves the forwarded instance is the exact same object (Assert.Same),
not a wrapper.
- AppPluginHost/Program.cs: new vtankProfiles constructor parameter,
composed as FilePluginStorage(runtimeOptions.VtankProfileDirectoryOverride
?? Path.Combine(applicationPaths.DataDirectory, "vtank")).
- RuntimeOptions.VtankProfileDirectoryOverride: new init-only property
parsed from ACDREAM_VTANK_PROFILE_DIR (row added to
docs/launch-options.md, side-effects column states the redirect is the
only effect and documents the NullIfEmpty whitespace-not-special-cased
quirk it shares with every other path-override flag). New
RuntimeOptionsTests.VtankProfileDirectoryOverrideIsNullUnlessSet.
- FilePluginStorage.List(prefix): empty prefix now means "the storage
root itself" instead of throwing (Resolve() rejects empty/whitespace
keys, which is correct for every OTHER caller but wrong for "list
everything" — VtankProfileDirectory needs exactly that).
- Headless: HeadlessPluginHost gained the same VtankProfiles
property/constructor param, threaded through HeadlessPluginSession.Create
-> HeadlessSessionHost -> HeadlessProcessHost, composed from the new
HeadlessPathSet.VtankProfilesDirectory (<DataDirectory>/vtank, no
ACDREAM_VTANK_PROFILE_DIR-equivalent override — Headless path overrides
are HeadlessPathOverrides/CLI flags, not env vars). A small
AcDream.Headless.Plugins.FilePluginStorage duplicates the App
implementation byte-for-byte (Headless does not reference AcDream.App
and no shared "platform plugins" library exists yet to host one copy;
documented as a reasonable future consolidation, not required here).
- VtankProfileDirectory.cs rewritten: Resolve/PortableDefault deleted
outright (no more System.IO, no plugin-owned portable-default fallback);
ListSettingsProfiles/ListNavigationProfiles/ListMetaProfiles now take
IPluginStorage and enumerate through EnumerateFileNames, which calls
storage.List(string.Empty) and skips any key containing '/' (VTank's
profile directory is flat; a nested key from some other IPluginStorage
implementation is not a profile file). VtankProfileDirectoryTests
rewritten against an in-memory IPluginStorage fake instead of real
temp directories; new NestedPathKeysAreNotTreatedAsProfileFiles pins
that skip. The prior Resolve/PortableDefault-specific tests (Linux-path
guarantee, host-override-vs-portable-default) are superseded by
RuntimeOptionsTests.VtankProfileDirectoryOverrideIsNullUnlessSet plus
the RuntimeOptions.FromEnvironment Path.Combine-only composition in
Program.cs.
- docs/architecture/acdream-architecture.md: one sentence in the
Storage/List(prefix) paragraph naming VtankProfiles as the second,
unscoped storage.
No production caller of VtankProfileDirectory's listing methods exists
yet (A2's foundation is not wired into MossTankProfileStore/
MossTankMetaProfileStore/MossTankRouteProfileStore's own selection —
per that slice's own ledger note), so this is a contract + plumbing
change with no MossTank runtime behavior change.
MossTank suite: 562/562. Core.Tests (Plugin filter): 50/50. App.Tests
(Plugin|LaunchOptions|RuntimeOptions filter): 135/135. Headless.Tests:
173/174 (the one failure, HeadlessCredentialResolverTests.
LinuxRejectsGroupOrOtherCredentialPermissions, is a pre-existing
Linux-only lane gate that throws PlatformNotSupportedException on this
Windows host — unrelated to this change).

Campaign VT slice 1 Part A, deliverable 2 (foundation only - see the
closeout note in the final report for what is not yet wired up).
VtankProfileDirectory.cs resolves the on-disk VTank profile directory
through IPluginHost.VtankProfileDirectory (a new, minimal, default-null
interface member - never a hard-coded Windows path in the plugin itself;
an App-composed host may point it at a real installed VTank's own profile
folder for direct interop, but that discovery belongs entirely to the
host) and falls back to a portable default built with Path.Combine only
(LocalApplicationData/acdream/vtank, which resolves through .NET's
XDG-aware base-directory logic on Linux). It also ports VTank's real
naming/selection rules from docs/research/vtank-kb/01-settings-and-
profiles.md section 3: the per-character auto file (--Name_Server.ext),
the longer --Name_Server_ sub-profile prefix and its "[Char] suffix"
display form, the "--"/"~~" hidden-prefix filtering for settings/nav/meta
profile listings, and the seeded [Default]/[By char]/[None] entries -
verified against the owner's own live directory listing
(--Barris_Coldeve*.usd family).
Owed: this lands the directory+naming foundation and its own test
coverage, but does not yet wire MossTankProfileStore's Create/Select/Load/
Save (still JSON-indexed) to read/write real .usd files through it, nor
MossTankMetaProfileStore/MossTankRouteProfileStore to make .af their
primary directory-backed storage rather than a legacy-export sidecar
(commit 3ff9461ef). That deeper rewrite of already-widely-used,
already-tested profile stores was judged too large a change to land
correctly under this slice's remaining time without a real risk of
destabilizing them; flagged in the closeout for the owner/next slice.

Two Opus reviews of commit 8217a349e (Slice B: DAT icons in plugin
markup) found one BLOCKING defect and 14 SHOULD-FIX findings. All 15
fixed here in one commit per the review contract.
BLOCKING (finding 1): an unresolvable did painted a magenta square.
TextureCache.GetOrUploadRenderSurface's 1x1 magenta placeholder for a
missing RenderSurface is load-bearing for authored chrome, but
RetailMarkupIconResolver.ResolveDid only short-circuited did==0, so any
other unresolvable id fell through to that placeholder and got scaled
up by UiMarkupIcon/UiMarkupList/UiSimpleButton -- the classic
resolve(0)-style footgun (claude-memory/feedback_ui_resolve_zero_magenta.md),
just triggered by a missing id instead of a literal 0. Fixed by probing
Portal/HighRes existence via IDatReaderWriter.TryGet<RenderSurface>
BEFORE ever calling GetOrUploadRenderSurface -- that TryGet already
serializes concurrent DAT access internally (DatDatabaseWrapper's own
_databaseLock), the same synchronization IconComposer.TryDecode relies
on, so no additional lock was needed. RetailMarkupIconResolver now
takes IDatReaderWriter + TextureCache directly (RetailUiAssets gained a
TextureCache field, its one construction site in
InteractionRetainedUiComposition.cs updated) instead of the old
resolveSprite delegate, since it also needs the nearest-sampled upload
path for finding 6 below.
Finding 2 -- Smoke panel wiring bugs: its list fed iconkind="spell"
raw art DIDs (PluginSpellInfo.IconId) instead of spell ids, so
IMarkupIconResolver.ResolveSpell composited the wrong (or no) badge
every row. SmokeIconPanel.Binding.SpellIds now yields SpellId (the
printed text still shows IconId alongside). The bare-index demo and the
descriptor both moved from the unverified literal 7735 to 0x165 --
retail's real Melee Defense skill icon (SampleData.cs:64,
0x06000165) -- so the owner's visual gate proves real art, not a guess.
StartVisible flipped true, and a character with no self-buffs known
falls back to spell 1's real catalog entry (or an honest "no spells
known" row with icon 0 if even that fails) rather than fabricating art.
Finding 3 -- PluginIcons.Normalize's threshold was silently rewritten
from the contract's 0x01000000 to 0x06000000 during Slice B. Restored
to 0x01000000; the class/method XML docs now state the number directly
(no cref to the private const); the test table adds 0x02000000 (a value
that only distinguishes the two thresholds) and 0x01000000 itself
(passes through unchanged).
Finding 4 -- an unknown iconkind (e.g. "spel") only threw when a
resolver happened to be wired, because BuildIconSource/
BuildRowIconResolve validated inside their own null-icons early return.
A new ValidateIconKind helper runs UNCONDITIONALLY before that branch,
so a malformed iconkind is a Build-time author error on every host.
Finding 5 -- BindUintLiteralOrBinding required an exact uint property
type, rejecting the int-typed bindings Decal-facing code commonly uses
(MosswartMassacre's HudPictureBox.Image is int end to end). It now
matches BindUint's existing leniency: any property, converted via
Convert.ToUInt32 at read time. BindUintList likewise now accepts
IEnumerable<int> alongside IEnumerable<uint> (unchecked per-element
reinterpret -- icon ids never go negative in practice).
Finding 6 -- TextureCache._renderSurfaceGpuTextures was keyed by id
alone, so whichever caller asked for a given RenderSurface id FIRST won
the sampler for every later caller of the same id -- UiDatFont's glyph
atlases already request nearest:true while ResolveChrome's background
art requests nearest:false, so this was a real, reachable collision,
not hypothetical. Rekeyed to (id, nearest); RetailMarkupIconResolver.
ResolveDid now requests nearest:true (pixel-exact 32x32 icon art);
ResolveChrome is untouched (still nearest:false/linear). Audited every
other _renderSurfaceGpuTextures use site (TryGetValue/set/Dispose
iteration+Clear) plus the separate _nearestUiTextureSources/
_linearUiTwinHandles/_uploadMetadata dictionaries (all keyed by handle
or accounting name, unaffected) -- no other eviction/accounting path
assumed id-only keying.
Finding 7 -- column-reservation semantics, per the DECIDED shape:
MarkupDocument now sets button.IconSource / list.IconIdsSource +
IconResolve ONLY when a resolver (icons parameter) is actually wired --
previously button.IconSource was always assigned (even to an
always-empty func on an icons:null host); combined with this finding's
other half -- UiSimpleButton.OnDraw now reserves its icon column
whenever IconSource is non-null, regardless of a per-frame resolve miss,
so a bound id that goes briefly to 0 no longer slides the caption back
and forth -- would have permanently reserved a blank column on such a
host. UiMarkupList already reserved its column whenever IconIdsSource
was set; no draw-side change needed there.
Finding 8 -- added a with/without-icons comparison test for
UiMarkupList (mirroring the existing UiSimpleButton one): asserts the
row text quad's x is strictly greater with an icon column present, and
the icon quad itself has non-zero width.
Finding 9 -- <icon tooltip=""> (empty string) was still treated as
"has a tooltip" by a bare attribute-presence check, making the icon
swallow clicks with no visible tooltip ever appearing. Now uses
!string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace, matching ApplyCommon's own predicate for
every other element's tooltip.
Finding 10 -- PluginShelfButton.OnDraw drew nothing when a non-zero
descriptor icon id resolved to no texture (a bad Decal index, a DAT id
from a different install), rather than falling back to Initials the
way a zero id already did. Now decides once, on the first draw
(memoized, so Initials' string work never repeats every frame): a
failed resolve permanently switches Text to the initials fallback,
computed and assigned BEFORE base.OnDraw actually paints the caption.
Finding 11 -- MarkupDocument.AddElement's switch had no default arm, so
an unknown or miscased element name (<Icon>, <butotn>) silently
vanished from the built tree instead of failing loudly like every
other malformed-markup case. Added a default arm that throws
FormatException. Ran AcDream.Plugins.MossTank.Tests (337/337,
unchanged) and the full App markup suite to confirm no existing markup
relies on an unknown element.
Finding 12 -- PluginPanelDescriptor.IconSurfaceId's XML doc now states
that a bare Decal index is accepted and normalized, citing
PluginIcons.Normalize.
Finding 13 -- docs/plugin-ui-markup.md: replaced the blanket "wrong
type/missing property throws at Build" sentence with the per-attribute
truth table the review produced (which attributes are silent at
runtime vs. throw at Build, and each one's bound CLR/delegate type);
restated the icon-id boundary as 0x01000000; added the "do NOT add
0x06000000 to the four already-full IconId records" warning (citing
SkillBase._iconID / UIRegion::SetImageByDID @0x004f150e); documented
that 0x-prefixed hex is required (an unprefixed all-digit literal
parses as decimal); noted unknown element names now throw; called out
list colors (0xRRGGBB) vs. color=/background=/border= (#AARRGGBB) as
non-interchangeable grammars; documented the root <panel visible>
binding-only exception; corrected the shelf's collapse toggle glyphs
(</>, not the old doc's arrows) and the 28px collapsed-tab size; added
the IconId record-equality API-v1 note; and called out iconkind as
per-<list> (mixed id spaces need pre-normalized DIDs; the composited
spell badge has no did-space escape hatch) plus the existing
one-text-column LIMITATION being deferred to MossTank.
Coverage added for finding 14: a PluginSidePanelTests case proving the
shelf button normalizes a bare descriptor index before resolving, and a
reflection-based unit on AppAutomationSurface.ProjectWorldObject (its
public callers gate on IsAvailable, which needs a fully connected
session heavier than this mapping needs -- the plan's own documented
fallback) proving PluginWorldObject.IconId carries ClientObject.IconId
through unchanged; PluginInventoryItem.IconId uses the identical
one-line pattern inline in CaptureOwnedItems, reviewed by inspection.
Finding 15: recorded a "Review ledger" section in the plan doc with
both slices' commits, both review verdicts, and the two items
explicitly deferred to the MossTank plugin work (multi-column list,
root literal visible).
Verification: full solution builds green. Targeted filter
(Markup|PluginSidePanel|PluginIcons|AppAutomation|TextureCache|
UiDatFont) passes 131/131, including the two InstalledDat-lane tests
(RetailMarkupIconResolverInstalledDatTests,
AppAutomationSurfaceIconInstalledDatTests) actually resolving against
the real installed DAT, not skipping. AcDream.Plugins.MossTank.Tests
passes 337/337 unchanged. Full AcDream.App.Tests suite: 7351 passed /
97 skipped / 36 failed -- identical failure set/count to the
7334/97/36 baseline (the +17 passes are exactly the new/expanded
tests: 2 new PluginIconsTests.Normalize theory rows, 10 new
MarkupIconTests cases, 2 new PluginSidePanelTests cases, 1 new
AppAutomationSurfaceTests case, and the 2 new standalone test files).

Owner request: plugin panels (Decal/VirindiViewService-class, per the
MosswartMassacre reference usage) need to embed real DAT icons the way
FlagTrackerView.SafeSetListImage does — spell/skill art, raw portal
indices, and a window icon. This is Slice B of
docs/plans/2026-09-06-plugin-shelf-and-dat-icons.md (Slice A, the
movable/collapsible shelf, landed in 01b98ca30/4fada238e/718005b21).
What shipped:
- AcDream.Plugin.Abstractions.PluginIcons.Normalize: the one Decal-style
bare-index -> 0x06xxxxxx RenderSurface DID grammar, applied at every
icon SINK (descriptor IconSurfaceId in PluginShelfButton, and markup
<icon did>/<button icon>/<list icons> did-kind ids) rather than on the
plugin-facing records, which already carry real DIDs read straight
from the client's tables.
- PluginSpellInfo.IconId / PluginSkillInfo.IconId /
PluginInventoryItem.IconId / PluginWorldObject.IconId: additive init
properties (default 0), filled in AppAutomationSurface from
SpellMetadata.IconId (already projected from SpellBase.Icon by
RetailSpellMetadataProjector — no gap there), a new BindSkillIcons
parallel to BindSkillNames (GameWindow reads
DatReaderWriter.Types.SkillBase.IconId — confirmed via reflection over
the installed Chorizite.DatReaderWriter package, since its XML docs
don't cover Pack/Unpack-generated public fields: Description, Name,
IconId (uint), TrainedCost, SpecializedCost, Category, ChargenUse,
MinLevel, Formula, UpperBound, LowerBound, LearnMod), and
ClientObject.IconId in CaptureOwnedItems/ProjectWorldObject.
- IMarkupIconResolver (AcDream.App.UI): ResolveDid/ResolveSpell/
ResolveItem. MarkupDocument.Build gains an optional parameter (null by
default -> every icon sink resolves to nothing rather than throwing,
so pre-Slice-B callers/tests are unaffected). RetailUiRuntime.
MountPlugins builds ONE RetailMarkupIconResolver per pass from
RetailUiAssets.ResolveSprite + RetailUiAssets.Icons (the shared
IconComposer) + Toolbar.Objects (the SAME ClientObjectTable
Magic/Toolbar bindings already borrow for their own icon resolution —
no second object lookup introduced).
- New UiMarkupIcon widget (<icon x y w h did|spell|item tooltip>):
exactly one source required (FormatException at Build otherwise,
matching every other malformed-attribute rule), aspect-preserved,
centered, click-through unless a tooltip makes it a real hit-test
target.
- UiSimpleButton.IconSource and UiMarkupList.IconIdsSource/IconResolve:
additive, default null/no-op, so every existing button/list caller
(including the plugin shelf's own toggle/minimize buttons) is
unaffected. Button icon draws flush left and shifts the caption's
centering region right; list icons reserve a leading RowHeight-2
column (Decal's IconColumn) and skip rows whose id is 0 or
unresolvable.
- MarkupDocument centralizes the did/spell/item dispatch (including
PluginIcons.Normalize for did) in two small helpers (BuildIconSource
for <icon>/<button>, BuildRowIconResolve for <list>) so all three
markup surfaces share one resolver call path.
- AcDream.Plugins.Smoke ships a RegisterPanelContent (in-memory KSML,
no plugin-side .xml file) proof panel exercising every new surface:
a bare-index <icon>, a literal-hex <icon>, a composited <icon
spell=...>, a <button icon=...>, and a <list icons=... iconkind=
spell> of the first five known self-buffs with their IconId printed
alongside. Descriptor IconSurfaceId reuses the same bare index to
prove the shelf button and the panel's own icon normalize identically.
- docs/plugin-ui-markup.md is the new SSOT for the full markup
vocabulary + icon grammar + the Slice A shelf; linked from
docs/README.md and docs/plans/2026-04-24-ui-framework.md.
Design decisions where the plan left room:
- Normalize runs inside the resolver dispatch (BuildIconSource/
BuildRowIconResolve), not scattered at each markup call site, so
every did-kind sink shares one choke point.
- did/spell/item all accept either a literal (decimal or 0x-hex) or a
{Binding}, via one BindUintLiteralOrBinding helper, for symmetry —
the plan only showed spell/item as bindings but didn't forbid a
literal.
- <icon> requires exactly one source INCLUDING zero (not just two);
an icon with no source is not a coherent element.
- The button/list icon draw math (icon column extent, padding) lives
in the widgets themselves (UiSimpleButton/UiMarkupList), not in
MarkupDocument, keeping the parser only responsible for wiring
Func<(tex,w,h)> sources.
Tests: PluginIconsTests (Normalize table), MarkupIconTests (icon/button/
list resolver dispatch via a fake IMarkupIconResolver, plus draw-level
pins via the RecordingGpuDevice/TextRenderer apparatus already used by
UiAncestorClipTests/UiRenderContextDrawStringDatOutlineTests — "draws
nothing when unresolvable" and "button/list icon shifts the text"),
and AppAutomationSurfaceIconInstalledDatTests (Lane=InstalledDat: a
known spell's IconId matches the real installed SpellTable's own Icon
field exactly). Verified every new test fails to COMPILE without this
change (git-stashed the src/ changes, rebuilt the test project: CS0246
on IMarkupIconResolver) before restoring. Full App suite: 7331 passed /
97 skipped / 36 failed (identical pre-existing failure set/count to the
7306/97/36 baseline; the +25 passes are exactly the new tests).
AcDream.Plugins.MossTank.Tests (the main consumer of the touched
Plugin.Abstractions records) passes 337/337 unchanged, confirming
API-v1 binary/source compatibility. Full solution builds green.

Replace the building and EnvCell detail replay with retail's exact single-pass stage result, including authored surface opacity, squared detail alpha, final-alpha clipping, and the original subset pipeline/order. Arm the ordered walk command in place to close#471, delete the replay pipelines/shaders, and advance prepared content to recipe 9.
Mutation witnesses (each restored before commit):

- X*=base alpha: same test line 175, forbidden baseTexel.a found.
- CLIP against base alpha: EnvCellAlphaDrawSourceTests.ClipShaders_UseGreaterEqualForThePerRangeReference line 260, final-X conditional missing.
- second detail draw: EnvCellAlphaDrawSourceTests.DetailOn_EveryEnvCellFamilyDrawsOnceInPlaceWithAuthoredOpacity line 105, Assert.Single saw 2 MDI calls.
- straight-alpha substitution: WalkStaticStreamPopulatorTests.ImmediateBuildingDetail_RetainsOriginalFramebufferFamily line 1244, Additive first failed (only wb-mesh-alpha-1x recorded; InvAlpha also failed).
- omit ordered arm: OrderPreservingSubmitterTests.PrepareThenDraw_OrdinaryBuildingClipBuildingOrdinary_ArmsOnePassInPlace line 305, expected (77,3.5), got (0,0).
- omit atmospheric combine: RetailDetailTextureContractTests.BothShaderFamiliesUseTheSharedOnePassSourceAndDebugPrecedesDetailSample line 173, atmospheric shared include missing.
- drop serialized opacity: ObjectMeshDataSerializerTests.SurfaceOpacity_RoundTripsBitExactlyAndDeterministically line 288, first reported 0.5 bits 1056964608 vs 1065353216.
- stale detail arm: ordered adjacency test line 307, expected following ordinary (0,0), got (77,3.5).
- per-frame surface map: EnvCellAlphaDrawSourceTests.ProductionWholeLeaf_WarmedScanSubmitRhiAndFilteredReplayDoNotAllocate line 178, expected 0 B, got 147456 B.
Verification before commit: shader compiler 23/23; focused App 213/213; Content 75/75; Core Wb 10/10; launcher migration 6/6; Release solution build 0 warnings / 0 errors; git diff --check clean.
FoliageWindByDayGroup / FoliageWindDayGroupPoint(int ActiveDayGroup, ...)
becomes FoliageWindByWeather / FoliageWindWeatherPoint(string WeatherKind,
...) in AtmospherePolicyDeclaration (Plugin.Abstractions is BCL-only, so
the key is the exact member name of AcDream.Core.World.WeatherKind rather
than the enum itself). The raw activeDayGroup index carries no weather
meaning by itself; WeatherState.cs already classifies each day group's
authored DAT name into one of five real weather kinds, and that fact was
already threaded through AtmosphericFrameInputs.Weather / uAtmosphereWeather.x
— this reuses it instead of guessing an index-to-category mapping.
Built-in table (BuiltInAtmosphericRenderPack.AtmospherePolicy()): Clear
0.25/0.15, Overcast 0.60/0.35, Rain 0.85/0.60, Snow 0.35/0.20, Storm
1.00/0.75 — all five WeatherKind members declared, the invented "Cloudy"
row dropped. RenderPackAtmospherePolicyEvaluation.FoliageWind now takes a
WeatherKind and matches by weather.ToString() (ordinal) against each
declared point's name; a kind absent from the table falls back to the
declared Clear row, then to (0,0) if Clear itself is undeclared. The
delta-seconds EMA interpolation (EaseTowardTarget) is unchanged.
AtmosphericPostProcessGraph.ResolveFoliageWind and its two callers
(RenderPostProcess via inputs.Weather; RenderDirectionalShadows via
foundation.Atmosphere.Kind) now pass WeatherKind instead of the day-group
int.
RenderPackValidation.ValidateAtmosphere (runs for every pack declaring an
AtmospherePolicy, not gated to Tier2/shadow packs) now rejects an unknown
or non-exact-case weather-kind name and a repeated kind, mirroring the
existing ActiveDayGroupMultiplier duplicate-key check.
Tests: RenderPackAtmospherePolicyEvaluationTests rewritten for the
kind-keyed API (all five kinds resolve to their declared row, an unlisted
kind falls back to Clear, ordinal exact-case matching, null-table
handling); RenderPackSpirvValidatorTests gains four descriptor-validation
cases (unknown name, wrong case, duplicate kind, the five-kind table
accepted); AtmosphericPostProcessGraphTests' three foliage-wind cases now
select WeatherKind.Storm via `with` instead of an assumed day-group index.
Spot-check (per the coordinator's ask, not changed here): yes —
ActiveDayGroupMultiplier / EvaluateDayGroupPolicy (pre-existing, Campaign
AR/VM3-era — BuiltInAtmosphericRenderPack.AtmospherePolicy()'s three rows
`new ActiveDayGroupMultiplier(0, 1.0), (1, 0.35), (2, 0.20)`) key the
sun-ray/shadow/volumetric day-group strength multiplier by the same raw
activeDayGroup index with an undocumented assumed meaning (0=brightest ...
2=dimmest), the identical class of issue this commit fixes for foliage
wind. Left unchanged per instruction; flagging for the coordinator to file.
Full solution Debug and Release builds green. App hermetic filter
6024/6026 — the same 2 pre-existing failures as VM6a/VM6b. Both were
re-run in isolation per the verification ask: both still fail alone (not
a load-flake in this environment) — confirmed via git stash earlier this
session that both already fail on the unmodified pre-VM6 baseline, so
they are pre-existing and unrelated to this change. Core.Tests hermetic
4697/4697. RenderPackValidator.Tests 30/30. No shader/spv changes in this
commit (pure C#/docs fix).

Procedural-scenery foliage (trees/bushes — entity ids in the
ProceduralSceneryIdAllocator's 0x8XXYYIII namespace) sways with weather in
mesh_atmospheric.vert and all four directional_shadow_world_* caster vertex
shaders, both calling the identical new foliage_wind.glsl include so the
shadow moves with the leaf by construction.
Classification (FoliageWindClassification, AcDream.App.Rendering.Wb): two
new BatchData.flags bits, computed once per (entity, subset) from four
inputs — entity id (bit 31 for procedural scenery), the pack's declared
FoliageExclusions membership, the subset's TranslucencyKind, and
ObjectRenderData.HasCutoutSubset (computed once per mesh at build time, not
per frame). Bit 1 marks an alpha-cutout leaf subset; bit 2 marks an opaque
trunk subset (only when its own mesh also owns a cutout subset, so rocks
stay still). WbDrawDispatcher.ClassifyBatches (world receiver) and
AddDirectionalShadowBatches (caster) call this with the same four inputs, so
casters and receivers classify identically without needing to share state.
Retail's mesh_modern/terrain_modern/mesh_detail pipelines never read these
bits, so pack-off output is unaffected.
Motion model (foliage_wind.glsl, mirrored bit-for-bit in the new
FoliageWindModel for hermetic CPU tests): height-squared-scaled slow lean
for every foliage subset, plus branch swing and per-vertex-hash-decorrelated
flutter for cutout subsets only. AtmosphericPostProcessGraph.ResolveFoliageWind
resolves the wind block once per frame.Serial — advanced by whichever of
RenderDirectionalShadows (which runs first) or RenderPostProcess is called
first that frame, with the second reading the already-advanced state, which
is what keeps the caster and receiver reading byte-identical clock/strength
values. The per-day-group mean/gust target (AtmospherePolicyDeclaration.
FoliageWindByDayGroup, keyed by the same day-group index convention
ActiveDayGroupMultipliers already established: Clear/Cloudy/Overcast/Rainy)
eases toward its target over WeatherSystem.TransitionSeconds (10s) so a
weather change never snaps; wind-enabled off or indoor instead gates the
OUTPUT to an exact zero (not an asymptotic approach) so a settings toggle or
cell transition is immediate. The wind clock is a Stopwatch started at graph
construction (monotonic, session-relative magnitude for GPU sin() accuracy),
overridable by the same ACDREAM_SKY_PHASE_SECONDS pin SkyRenderer already
uses, for deterministic offline gates.
New settings: wind-enabled, wind-strength, wind-direction-degrees (225°
default — no authored retail wind direction exists to read),
wind-lean-metres, wind-branch-metres, wind-flutter-metres (0 on Low),
wind-canopy-height-metres.
Register row IA-25 files this as an intentional, strictly opt-in divergence:
retail applies no per-vertex wind displacement to any geometry. Known,
accepted limitation: classification is per mesh-subset (one BatchData.flags
word per indirect-draw batch), not per entity instance, so the rare case of
one mesh subset being reachable from both a procedural-scenery and a
non-scenery placement would classify all of that subset's instances alike.
Tests: FoliageWindClassificationTests (the full classification matrix),
FoliageWindModelTests (identity on non-foliage/calm-wind/base-vertex,
canopy-top displacement bound, z-never-increases, trunk has no flutter
term), RenderPackAtmospherePolicyEvaluationTests (exact day-group lookup,
no interpolation across day-group ids, easing convergence without overshoot
or discontinuity), AtmosphericShaderAbiTests (each of the five shaders calls
acdreamFoliageDisplace exactly once; mesh_modern/terrain/mesh_detail call it
never), and four AtmosphericPostProcessGraphTests additions (indoor/disabled
exact-zero gating, settings-to-UBO wiring, same-frame-Serial idempotency —
the last proxies the caster/receiver agreement invariant without needing
this hermetic harness's WbDrawDispatcher/TerrainModernRenderer dependency
chain to exercise RenderDirectionalShadows directly).
App hermetic filter: 6015/6017 (the same 2 pre-existing failures as VM6a,
confirmed unrelated). Core.Tests hermetic: 4697/4697. RenderPackValidator.Tests:
30/30. Full solution Debug and Release builds green. Shader recompile
touched exactly the 5 edited files' .spv (plus manifest); the retail oracle
set and every other pack shader are byte-identical.

AtmosphericFrame (set 3/binding 5) grows additively from 160 to 192 bytes:
two appended vec4 members, uAtmosphereClockWind and uAtmosphereWindAmplitude,
carry the foliage-wind clock/weather and amplitude inputs VM6b's shader
displacement will read. RenderPackShaderAbi renames the old constant to
AtmosphericFrameSizeBytesV1 (160), adds AtmosphericFrameSizeBytesV2 (192),
keeps AtmosphericFrameSizeBytes pointing at the current (v2) size, and adds
ShaderAbiVersion = 2. RenderPackSpirvValidator.ValidateAtmosphericFrame
accepts either the v1 (seven-member, 160-byte) or v2 (nine-member, 192-byte)
shape and rejects anything else naming both — this is why the frozen
external sample packs under samples/*/Shaders/*.spv, whose GLSL sources are
not in this tree, need no rebuild: a v1 shader bound to the 192-byte buffer
still reads correctly, since a bound range only needs to be >= the block's
own declared size.
DirectionalSunShadowRenderer's caster pass now binds AtmosphericFrame too
(both the multiview and per-cascade sites), through a new
AtmosphericFrameBufferBinding the graph owns and supplies via
DirectionalSunShadowRenderInput. AtmosphericPostProcessGraph.RenderDirectionalShadows
builds its own 192-byte ring allocation for this, separate from the world
receiver's frame block, because the caster pass runs before RenderPostProcess
constructs that block within the same frame. The four world caster pipeline
variants (opaque/cutout, base/multiview) are now allowed to declare binding
5 in the validator; terrain casters are untouched.
This commit is plumbing only: the two new members are always written but
never read by any shader yet (zero placeholders), so pack-on and pack-off
output are both pixel-identical to before. VM6b wires the real weather-driven
values and the shader-side displacement.
App hermetic filter: 5972/5974 (2 pre-existing failures unrelated to this
change, confirmed against the unmodified baseline). Core.Tests hermetic:
4697/4697. RenderPackValidator.Tests: 30/30. VulkanShaderManifestTests
(retail oracle set): 7/7, byte-identical.

The last piece of QT6's own scope: r10-quest-dialogs.md §11.6's contract half.
IGameState.Contracts exposes what the client structurally knows about quests,
which — per that same research — is the tracker and nothing else. The rest of
§11.6 (chat stream, tells, give, use, confirmations) is other features and
stays out of this campaign.
A pull-through source rather than a pushed mirror. Contracts change rarely and
are already owned canonically, so a second copy would only be a thing to keep
in step; reading through means a plugin cannot observe a stale list.
Both hosts implement it. The headless one carries contract id, stage and
progress but no names — a bot has no dat access — because losing the TEXT is
expected while losing the QUEST would leave a bot silently unable to see what
it is on. Same rule covers a contract the installed dat has never heard of: it
still projects, with empty text and a correct status, rather than vanishing.
The interface member is defaulted so a host predating this campaign still
satisfies IGameState.
Two lazy catalog loads exist (the panel's and this one) rather than one shared
instance. That is deliberate: threading a shared ContractCatalog through three
composition records to avoid reading a 322-row immutable table at most twice
per session would be plumbing for no correctness or performance gain, and the
comment at the call site says so.
Campaign QT is complete; the connected user gate is owed.

Two gaps from the MossTank shipment review.
**apiVersion was declared in every manifest and checked by nothing.** The
loader now refuses an unsupported contract BEFORE loading any code from the
plugin — checking after the fact is not equivalent, because by then the
assembly is in a collectible context and the mismatch surfaces as a type-load
or missing-member failure from inside the plugin, which reads like the plugin
is broken rather than built for a different host. PluginApi (Current /
MinimumSupported) lives in Plugin.Abstractions beside the contract it
versions, and the refusal is a distinct PluginApiVersionException so callers
can tell "update the client or the plugin" from "this plugin is broken". The
tests pin the ordering too: a manifest with a future apiVersion AND a missing
dll must fail on the version, a supported one on the dll.
**A launcher-launched client loaded no plugins until the user typed ids.**
LA5 distinguishes an omitted allow-list (load all) from an explicit empty one
(load none); a fresh character profile's list is empty, so it composed to
load-none. Direct launches pass null and load everything -- which is why the
gap never showed in development: the two launch paths disagreed and the
launcher was the one users get. This REVERSES the LA5 default deliberately:
"nothing configured" now composes to the omitted list, so plugins are on by
default, including ones installed later. The opt-out is kept -- losing it
would be a real regression for stripped sessions -- respelled as the literal
id "none", and the launcher's plugin box says so.
The cross-host shared fixture composes its explicit-load-none case through
the new spelling, keeping the reader-side contract tests (App and Headless
both preserve an explicit empty list) exactly as they were.
Complete Release suite: 14,469 tests pass on the standard hermetic lane
filter, 0 failures.

Three whole categories of buff were missing, for two different reasons, and
both were my errors.
**Protections and weapon auras were silently dropped by the description
parser.** They are self-targeted and were sitting in the spellbook the whole
time, but retail words them differently and the pattern only accepted
"Increases the caster's X by N":
Fire Protection Self -> "Reduces damage the caster takes from Fire by 9%."
Armor Self -> "Increases the caster's natural armor by 20 points."
Aura of Blood Drinker -> "Increases a weapon's damage value by 2 points."
So the weapon and wand buffs do exist as self-cast "Aura of" lines and are now
cast. Each category has its own toggle, matching VTank's separate
BuffProfile_Prots and BuffProfile_Banes.
The underlying flaw mattered more than the two missing patterns: anything
unmatched was DISCARDED. It now falls into an Other bucket (off by default)
instead, so nothing self-targeted is lost without a word. A test caught a
second instance immediately -- regeneration spells say "Restores..." and were
vanishing the same way.
**Banes were excluded because I misread a flag.** I took IsSelfTargeted as
"can be cast on you". It means "needs no selection". Retail's own bane text
says exactly how they work:
"Increases a shield or piece of armor's resistance to slashing damage by
10%. Target yourself to cast this spell on all of your equipped armor."
So banes ARE cast on the person, and the catalogue now includes every
beneficial non-untargeted spell rather than only flagged self-casts, leaving
EvaluateGate to decide what a given target accepts. Before casting anything
without the self flag, MossTank selects the player -- and restores whatever
was selected before the pass, so targeting yourself does not quietly steal
the selection.
They are matched on retail's "Target yourself..." sentence rather than on the
word "Bane", so the classification comes from what the spell says it does.
Solution builds clean; 14,450 tests pass on the standard hermetic lane filter,
0 failures.

Four defects from the first in-world look, three of them with a definite root
cause rather than a plausible one.
**The Buff button did nothing.** Not a hit-testing problem -- the pointer found
the button perfectly. UiRoot's press handling asks the pressed widget whether
it owns the pointer; a widget that does not claim the press falls through to
"move the ancestor window", and a window drag returns early on release without
ever emitting a Click. UiButton and UiClickablePanel both override
HandlesClick for exactly this reason; UiSimpleButton never did. Latent since
that class was written, and invisible until it was put inside a draggable
window -- which is precisely what a markup plugin panel is.
Found by reproducing it headlessly through the real UiRoot dispatcher rather
than by reasoning about it: MarkupPanelClickTests drives press-and-release over
the button and asserts the bound action ran, with a separate test asserting the
pointer finds the button at all, so a future failure says which half broke.
My earlier guess -- that a modal at character select was swallowing the click
-- was wrong, and the screenshot of the panel live in world disproved it.
**"0 trained skills".** The skill-name table was read in OnLoad *before*
GameWindowCompositionPipeline.Run, which is what publishes the DAT collection,
so _dats was still null, the whole block was skipped, and the surface reported
an empty skill list with nothing to explain it. Bound in PublishDatCollection
instead -- the moment the data exists -- so it cannot run early again whatever
the phase ordering does, and a genuinely missing SkillTable now says so.
**Plugin text used the development bitmap font.** UiLabel and UiSimpleButton
gained a DatFont, and MarkupDocument now takes the retail interface font from
the host, so plugin panels render through the same glyph path (including
retail's two-plane outline) as authored panels.
**MossTank now writes to chat.** New BCL-only IPluginChat routes to retail's
ClientLocal log type (0x1A) -- the channel the client uses for its own notices,
local to this client, so a plugin cannot speak in the player's name. MossTank
announces the start, the finish with a cast count, and a stall.
Not addressed here: the cursor showing blue rather than amber. Traced but not
fixed -- CursorFeedbackController picks the cursor family from combat mode, and
CombatMode.Magic selects the blue Magic cursor where Default is amber. That is
a combat-mode question, unrelated to this change, and worth its own look rather
than a speculative fix folded in here.
Solution builds clean; 14,437 tests pass on the standard hermetic lane filter,
0 failures.

Reworks MossTank against user feedback and the Virindi Tank feature docs
(virindi.net is reachable again over https with a self-signed cert; the
research doc's "unreachable" note is stale).
VTank's stated default is the spec: "automatically buffs every Attribute and
Skill you have trained", and "all buff spells are recast when they go below 5
minutes". The previous pass buffed the whole spellbook and refreshed at 60s;
both are corrected.
The hard problem was working out WHICH stat each buff raises. The client's
spell table has no such link -- it arrives from the server with the
enchantment -- and the naming is too irregular to infer: Invulnerability
raises Melee Defense, Impregnability raises Missile Defense, Fealty raises
Loyalty, Sprint raises Run, Arcane Enlightenment raises Arcane Lore, and the
line called Willpower raises the attribute named Self. Any name-matching
scheme dies on that last one.
Retail states it outright in each spell's own description ("Increases the
caster's Life Magic skill by 10 points"), so BuffProfile derives the whole
mapping from shipped data at runtime. It also carries the one alias the data
needs: the spell text says "Assess Monster" where the skill table says "Assess
Creature", and without that the skill silently never matches.
Two data facts that would each have caused a real bug, found by dumping the
spell table rather than assuming:
* Family is NOT a spell-line identity in general. Retail groups the
instantaneous vital transfers by SOURCE vital, so family 89 holds both
"Stamina to Health" and "Stamina to Mana". Picking the strongest tier in a
family would convert into the wrong vital about half the time. Buff lines
group by family (correct for duration buffs, which is retail's own stacking
bucket); the conversions are found by name stem instead.
* Instantaneous spells have no duration and must be excluded from buff lines
entirely, or they are treated as buffs that never appear to land.
Tier selection now follows the character's skill in the casting school against
the spell's difficulty (VTank's SpellDiffExcessThreshold-Buff), which is why
PluginSpellInfo gained School as a SKILL id -- MagicSchool is retail's 1-5
school enum, not something a character trains.
Mana upkeep is the loop asked for: convert stamina to mana when mana is low,
Revitalize when that leaves stamina too low to convert, and refuse to drain
stamina past a floor. Unknown vitals read as zero and are treated as "no
information" rather than "empty", so it will not cast on a healthy character.
Panel no longer shows at character select. IsAvailable is now the runtime's
own lifecycle state rather than a proxy, and markup gained visible="{Binding}"
plus UiElement.VisibleSource -- evaluated before the visible gate, because
TickSelfAndChildren returns early when hidden and an element could otherwise
never un-hide itself.
Also: a generated SpellId enum of all 6,266 spells (tools/SpellDump --enum),
generated from portal.dat rather than copied, so it cannot drift and carries
no third-party licence; skill and spell names now come from the retail tables
for display; and the Buff click logs unconditionally, so "nothing happened"
can be told apart from "the click never arrived".
Solution builds clean; 14,433 tests pass on the standard hermetic lane filter,
0 failures, including 21 covering the buff profile, tier selection and mana
loop.

First consumer of acdream's plugin automation surface, and the first slice of
the VTank-class plugin milestone
(docs/research/2026-07-29-vtank-plugin-automation-requirements.md).
MossTank shows a panel with a Buff button; clicking it casts every self-buff
the character is missing, skips what is already in force at an equal or higher
tier, and refreshes what is nearly expired.
The host/plugin line is the load-bearing decision here. The host publishes
spell DATA -- family, tier, difficulty, mana, duration -- plus a cast
primitive with a preflight gate. The plugin owns the POLICY. That is the
architectural conclusion the requirements research reached: VTank's engine
lived in plugin-land, built on Decal's primitives, and baking "best buff for
skill X" into the host would start pulling the engine inward one convenience
at a time.
Why the plan is driven off the spellbook rather than off trained skills, which
is the obvious reading of "buff every trained and specialised skill": the
client cannot honestly make that mapping. The link between a spell and the
stat it modifies arrives from the SERVER in the enchantment message and is
absent from the client's own spell table. What the client does know is which
spells the character has learned -- and a character only learns buffs for the
skills they use, so the spellbook reaches the same set without inventing a
mapping the client has no grounds for.
Surface added, all BCL-only so Plugin.Abstractions keeps its zero project
references:
* ICharacterInfo, ISpellCatalog, IMagicCommands, grouped behind one
IAutomationSurface so IPluginHost grows by one member rather than three.
* IEvents.Tick. Automation is sequences, not single calls -- a buff pass casts
several spells and must wait between them. Without a host tick a plugin
would need its own timer thread re-entering the host off its update thread.
* NoOpAutomationSurface for hosts with no live session, so a plugin keeps one
code path and checks IsAvailable.
Markup gained <button> and <label>; it previously supported only <meter>, with
a comment promising the rest. Buttons bind onclick to an Action property and
FAIL THE PANEL LOAD if it does not resolve -- a silently dead button is worse
than a panel that refuses to load, because the user clicks and there is
nothing to diagnose. Labels bind through a Func so a status line tracks its
binding instead of freezing at build time.
Enchantment reads use EnchantmentsInEffectSnapshot rather than the raw active
set: retail leaves a weaker same-family enchantment in the registry while a
stronger one is in force, and a plugin asking "am I buffed?" means in force.
BuffPlan is a pure function of (known buffs, active enchantments) precisely so
it can be tested without a session; 9 tests cover tier supersede, the
family-0 no-stack bucket that must not be de-duplicated, expiry refresh, and
plan stability across the rebuilds the tick loop performs.
Solution builds clean; 14,421 tests pass on the standard hermetic lane filter,
0 failures.

Adds the plugin-facing UI registration surface (Task 9, final D.2b task).
Plugins call host.Ui.AddMarkupPanel(path, binding) from Enable(); calls are
buffered in BufferedUiRegistry before the GL window opens, then drained into
UiHost.Root in GameWindow.OnLoad inside the RetailUi block after the first-
party vitals panel. Faulty plugin markup is isolated (try/catch per panel,
logged + skipped). IPluginHost.Ui added; AppPluginHost wired; StubHost in
Core.Tests updated; BufferedUiRegistryTests confirms drain-once semantics.

Adds WorldEntitySnapshot, IGameState, IEvents abstractions; WorldEvents
implements replay-on-subscribe with per-handler exception swallowing;
WorldGameState tracks entities; AppPluginHost exposes all three; stubs
wired in Program.cs to keep build green ahead of Task 9 live wiring.
