dd2cb92b99 chore(audio): Campaign A slice A6 — delete what retail does not have
Retail EoR has no music system: the linked winmm MIDI player has zero
callers, 'music' appears zero times in the 65 MB decomp, SoundType has no
music member, InitPrefs registers no music key, and the install ships no
music files. So PlayMusic/StopMusic/MusicVolume and the AudioSettings
Music knob are deleted rather than left as an API modelling dead code —
the string-keyed signature was the tell, since every other entry point is
DID-keyed. Old settings.json files carrying a 'music' key still load; the
reader ignores unknown keys and the next save drops it.

The Ambient slider is now surfaced, because slice A5 gave it something to
drive, and its default returns to retail's 1.0 from an invented 0.8 —
InitPrefs defaults every sound preference to unity. The panel rule is
unchanged: no slider that does nothing.

r05-audio-sound.md gets a SUPERSEDED banner naming its five wrong
sections (falloff, pan, voice pool, selection, music, ambient) so a
future reader reaches the lane notes instead of the Ghidra-era reads that
this campaign spent its first two slices undoing.

TS-9 re-scoped from 'any MP3 cue' to the measured blast radius: exactly 1
MP3 among 786 shipped waves, a ~2 s mono clip. Its original framing
assumed a music system that does not exist. The ADPCM count remains
unmeasured and is named as the open question.

Deferred deliberately: #321's sound-cache decode-dedup race. It is a
pre-existing concurrency flake rather than audio-parity behaviour, and
shipping a speculative fix to a race I have not reproduced is exactly the
shortcut this project's no-workarounds rule exists to prevent.

Campaign A is code-complete; the plan carries the closeout.

2c00d53db2 fix(net): sign-extend retail capacity bytes
Mirror PublicWeenieDesc::UnPack MOVSX behavior so ACE's FF capacity sentinels remain -1 instead of becoming 255. This suppresses non-container capacity prose through the normal retail appraisal checks, with raw-wire and formatter regression coverage.

d3c5e06fdd fix(ui): match retail item appraisal semantics
Preserve PublicWeenieDesc hook identity from CreateObject through the item model so hook appraisals suppress sentinel capacities exactly. Use appraisal-only Value and Burden presence, retain AddItemInfo paragraph and authored font-color selection, and port retail lock, page, enchantment, and spell-block formatting.

68578fa5fa fix(net): honor retail graceful logout handshake
Send the active character id, drain until the authoritative server confirmation, then emit retail's zero-sequence connection disconnect with the negotiated receiver iteration. The connected gate now waits for ACE to remove the exact UDP session before reconnecting, eliminating fixed-delay races.

f1ba147ac5 perf(vfx): port retail particle visibility degradation
Resolve DAT-authored particle ranges from the hardware GfxObj, apply retail distance and completed-cell visibility gates, and preserve the exact finite/infinite off-view update semantics. This removes dense-world simulation work without shortening terrain, entity, fog, or streaming distance.

Publish doorway-clipped outdoor cells through a focused frame controller, retain effect cell identity for outdoor statics, reject hidden emitters before particle-slot scans, and offer an explicit opt-in Extended particle range.

Release build succeeds and all 5,857 tests pass with five intentional skips. Retail-conformance, architecture, and adversarial review cycles are clean; connected Aerlinthe visual/performance gate pending.

d53fe30ffe research(vfx): pin retail projectile and effect oracle
Establish the executable-backed PhysicsDesc, sequence-gate, PhysicsScript, CreateBlocking, particle-anchor, projectile, and Hidden-state behavior before changing runtime code. Correct stale blocking/threshold claims and synchronize the project instructions with the current UI architecture and matching retail binary.

Add copyright-safe packet and DAT-container fixtures plus a failing installed-DAT conformance audit for projectile shapes, typed tables, recall motion, default scripts, and raw CreateBlocking inventory.

a54cd7bef6 fix(lighting): match retail indoor ambient (0.20 neutral, not 0.10/0.09/0.08 warm)
Indoor cells rendered "almost black" because the hardcoded ambient at
GameWindow.cs:8342-8345 was an early-2026 guess (0.10, 0.09, 0.08 — half
retail brightness, warm-tinted) rather than the retail value. The named
retail decomp (acclient.pdb, Sept 2013 EoR build) shows
CellManager::ChangePosition @ 0x004559B0 calls
SmartBox::SetWorldAmbientLight(0.2f, 0xFFFFFFFF) whenever the player's
CObjCell::seen_outside flag is 0 — a flat 0.20 white floor, not a
dungeon-tone warm color.

Investigation also confirmed:
- EnvCell.dat does NOT carry inline lights — CEnvCell::UnPack reads
numVisibleCells where Binary Ninja's heuristic decomp inferred
"num_lights". Retail's CObjCell.light_list is populated at runtime via
add_light() calls from neighbouring cell light registrations + per-cell
static-object Setup.Lights, NOT from the dat byte stream.
- Setup.Lights from indoor static objects (entity.SourceGfxObjOrSetupId
prefix 0x02xxxxxx) DO flow through LightInfoLoader.Load (line 5765)
and reach LightManager via LightingHookSink. The wire is intact; the
per-frame Tick + UBO upload chain (line 6865-6867) is intact.
- Retail's particle system does NOT emit lights from particles themselves.
The light comes from the owning Setup's LightInfo records.

Pre-existing failures in DispatcherToMovementIntegrationTests, BSPStepUpTests,
and MotionInterpreterTests are on the branch already and unrelated to this
change (verified by stashing + retesting).

3f913f1999 docs+feat: 13 retail-AC deep-dives (R1-R13) + C# port scaffolds + roadmap E-H
78,000 words of grounded, citation-backed research across 13 major AC
subsystems, produced by 13 parallel Opus-4.7 high-effort agents. Plus
compact C# port scaffolds for the top-5 systems and a phase-E-through-H
roadmap update sequencing the work.

Research (docs/research/deepdives/):
- 00-master-synthesis.md (navigation hub + dependency graph)
- r01-spell-system.md 5.4K words (fizzle sigmoid, 8 tabs, 0x004A wire)
- r02-combat-system.md 5.9K words (damage formula, crit, body table)
- r03-motion-animation.md 8.2K words (450+ commands, 27 hook types)
- r04-vfx-particles.md 5.8K words (13 ParticleType, PhysicsScript)
- r05-audio-sound.md 5.6K words (DirectSound 8, CPU falloff)
- r06-items-inventory.md 7.4K words (ItemType flags, EquipMask 31 slots)
- r07-character-creation.md 6.3K words (CharGen dat, 13 heritages)
- r08-network-protocol-atlas 9.7K words (63+149+94 opcodes mapped)
- r09-dungeon-portal-space.md 6.3K words (EnvCell, PlayerTeleport flow)
- r10-quest-dialogs.md 7.1K words (emote-script VM, 122 actions)
- r11-allegiance.md 5.4K words (tree + XP passup + 5 channels)
- r12-weather-daynight.md 4.5K words (deterministic client-side)
- r13-dynamic-lighting.md 4.9K words (8-light cap, hard Range cutoff)

Every claim cites a FUN_ address, ACE file path, DatReaderWriter type,
or holtburger/ACViewer reference. The master synthesis ties them into a
dependency graph and phase sequence.

Key architectural finding: of 94 GameEvents in the 0xF7B0 envelope,
ZERO are handled today — that's the largest network-protocol gap and
blocks F.2 (items) + F.5 (panels) + H.1 (chat).

C# scaffolds (src/AcDream.Core/):
- Items/ItemInstance.cs — ItemType/EquipMask enums, ItemInstance,
                             Container, PropertyBundle, BurdenMath
- Spells/SpellModel.cs — SpellDatEntry, SpellComponentEntry,
                             SpellCastStateMachine, ActiveBuff,
SpellMath (fizzle sigmoid + mana cost)
- Combat/CombatModel.cs — CombatMode/AttackType/DamageType/BodyPart,
                             DamageEvent record, CombatMath (hit-chance
                             sigmoids, power/accuracy mods, damage formula),
                             ArmorBuild
- Audio/AudioModel.cs — SoundId enum, SoundEntry, WaveData,
                             IAudioEngine / ISoundCache contracts,
                             AudioFalloff (inverse-square)
- Vfx/VfxModel.cs — 13 ParticleType integrators, EmitterDesc,
                             PhysicsScript + hooks, Particle struct,
                             ParticleEmitter, IParticleSystem contract

All Core-layer data models; platform-backed engines live in AcDream.App.
Compiles clean; 470 tests still pass.

Roadmap (docs/plans/2026-04-11-roadmap.md):
- Phase E — "Feel alive": motion-hooks + audio + VFX
- Phase F — Fight + cast + gear: GameEvent dispatch, inventory,
            combat, spell, core panels
- Phase G — World systems: sky/weather, dynamic lighting, dungeons
- Phase H — Social + progression: chat, allegiance, quests, char creation
- Phase J — Long-tail (renumbered from old Phase E)

Quick-lookup table updated with 10+ new rows mapping observations to
new phase letters.
